The Season’s Biggest, Best Shopping Malls

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a searing case of holiday fever. I want to spend every spare moment I have honing in on my gift giving list, brainstorming, and of course shopping! Online shopping is the overwhelming trend this year, but even if you end up getting most of your real shopping done via Amazon and Overstock, the mall is where the holiday bustle/magic/fun happens. So ready to honk over good parking spaces, jostle for position at the pretzel stand and basically soak in the inevitable holiday cheer that comes from festooned promenades, glittering window displays and of course amazing sales!

The Mall of America

Since 1992, this massive mall has been a retail icon in Bloomington, Minnesota. There are over 500 shops, restaurants and services, and  it also boasts an aquarium, indoor theme park and wedding chapel. A major tourist attraction, this mall’s holiday events include Santa, baking lessons and Dora the Explorer’s sing and dance along for the kids.

Galleries de la Capitale

On the outskirts of Quebec City, this sprawling mall has all of the fashionable shops you could hope for but also houses a full size skating rink, indoor roller coaster and carnival and the largest IMAX screen in Canada. Over 250 stores and restaurants including Canadian staples like la Baie and Simons make this mall fun for the whole family.

Westfield Shopping Centre

This west London mega mall takes up nine post codes, has 300 shops, a 14 screen cinema and has been a local staple since 2008. Need to sweat out those holiday treats? Try the in house gym or spa! If you plan on worrying about your waistline later, you can partake in every cuisine here from halal to kosher, vegetarian to seafood.

Madrid Xanadu

Arroyomolinos, Spain hosts this unique mall where shopping blends with…skiing? The SnowZone indoor winter fun center makes its own snow and is open for cold weather enthusiasts of all ages, even in Spain’s temperate climate. Cozy up in one of the cafés overlooking the park or hit the 250 retail outlets. Done shopping and forgot your snowpants? There’s also a bowling alley, mini-golf course and go cart track!

Champs-Élysées

This is considered the most beautiful avenue in the world, even without the bedazzlement of Christmastime. The shopping here is second to none with the top retailers in the world lining the street. From H & M to Louis Vuitton to the Disney Store, everyone will find what holiday treasures they seek. Though there are indoor “malls” along the way, the stroll outdoors down this famous avenue will evoke the most holiday excitement. World class cafés add even more glamour to the shopping trip—can’t recreate that online!
